This is a great tool to have if you have a bunch of old Hard Drives around the house - I keep a few at work and at home. Also, having IDE & SATA on the same adapter saves time trying to locate one or the other because when adapters like this first came out a few years back, they were drive specific. Easy hook up, ideal for those of you that have one hard drive that you use to back up your digital pictures, music, etc, every once in a while then store the hard drive somewhere else. Sometimes I find that I am using two of them at the same time (coping from one drive to the other). Also works on laptop drives, A drives, and CD/DVD ROM drives. If you buy this for the geek in your family (Like for Christmas or Birthday), they'll love you forever.
I couldn't get the device to work on any of 3 different operating systems, 2 machines, or 3 IDE drives. I'm not inclined to jump to conclusions, but I do believe in "you get what you pay for". that wasn't much here. Yes they were all Mastered and no I didn't bother to try SATA. Go spend more money - your time is worth something too.
The third drive was recoganized by the computer but no drive letter appeared in "my computer" window. My Deckcell USB 2.0 to SATA + IDE (2.5", 3.5", 5.25") Cable with Power Adapter came early. It was in good condition and it worked on two out of three HDD's. But what can i say 2 out of 3 isn't bad. I would buy from BrilliantStore again
A perfect item for transferring data from old hard drives to a new computer. Works as promised, though users might want to note that attached drives (ATAPI, IDE, etc). should be set as MASTER in order for USB ports to recognize attached devices. I've tried this item with several IDE hard drives and DVD recorders -- all were recognized by Windows XP without the need for an additional software driver (which is required for older versions of Windows).
Instead of buying this product, buy an external drive bay. Brilliantstores gave terrible helpdesk support and BenQ support said that these kits are junk and never work. They are more expensive, but they are 100% compatible. This set does not work with my Dell laptop. How true they were. I really wish that I would have just spent the extra money on an external bay.
